Junior School Year 2 – 6 Open House
Highlights from the Junior School Year 2-6 Open House
The five AKA Strands were wonderfully highlighted at the Year 2 to 6 Open House which took place on morning of Friday 27th February. Visitors were treated to a performance at the amphitheatre where the Year 6 students wove past pieces into a new presentation, highlighting how our unique curriculum is expressed through units of inquiry as well as our day to day actions and celebrations.
The assembly began with the song "Different Colours" accompanied by a Year 6 students dance of flags, as a colourful illustration of pluralism. The Grade 3 students shared their celebration of culture with songs from their unit, Mila Zetu. Ethics and global economics were introduced through the Year 5 performance of "Land of Migration" taken from the Junior School’s play "What a Waste".
Students also shared a skit to show their understanding of governance and civil society. The performance ended with a stirring rendition of the song "Save our Planet", sung by the entire student body.
After the assembly the visitors were taken on a school tour, led by our Junior School ambassador teams. These knowledgeable students were able to give a brief history of the Academy and our programmes as they showed our guests around the entire campus. The group then congregated in the Junior School library for a detailed presentation by Mr. Les Wilkins describing The Aga Khan Academy’s Primary Years Programme. There was an opportunity for questions and further discussion over tea, as prospective parents collected application forms and brochures outlining the Academy’s Programmes.
It was a marvellous morning and our students shone. As one visiting parent noted “The students at this school are certainly confident public speakers.”
