"Literacy & and Learning at our School Library"

“The pivotal role of school library and technology in students’ achievement at the school cannot be ignored, it is indeed an inspirational sight to observe students utilizing the library services to explore the world of books more and more.” These views were expressed by the Principal, Aga Khan School, Garden, Ms Samina Razi, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of International School Library Day 2008.

She said that the classroom work is designed in such a way that students get an opportunity for self learning such as projects, assignments. She added that these activities play a significant role in the life of a student.

The Aga Khan School, Garden organized the “International School Library Day” on October 27th to mark the “ISLW” which started with the visit of Book Fair on October 18th at Paramount Books.

Various activities were designed to celebrate the day, comprising: 1. Assembly presentation

2. Sending e-card to librarians and management

3. Circular to parents

4. Book mark making activity

5. Book talk sessions

6. Interview parents on the role of school library in their school days and how the library was used by the students

7. Visit to AKU main campus

8. Talk show on the topic “Electronic media versus print media

9. Poster competition

10. Designing logo on ISLD theme competition

11. Book launching ceremony of Naqash Kazmi and Masood Ahmed Barkati(Editor of Nounehal)

was arranged to provide a platform of interaction of the book writer to students as a strategy to inculcate the importance of books and acquiring pleasure for reading and finally designing ISLD newsletter to disseminate a glimpse of the arranged activities to the wider community to enhance school image and it can also raise at the time raise awareness about the contribution of school library in children’s learning.

The aim of the event was to introduce learners to reading in all its forms every year so that they can enjoy the world of words whether it is inform of print of web.
