Ham Serunjogi, a Ugandan national, joined the Diploma Programme at the Academy from Aga Khan High School in Kampala in August 2010. Ham joined the programme a week late as he was representing Uganda in the Youth Olympics in Singapore as part of their swim team.

At the most recent Coast Amateur Swimming Association (CASA) Gala, held on Saturday 5th February,Ham continued to excel in his swimming when he attained seven medals, two gold and managed to break three Ugandan National records in the 200m butterfly, 100m butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley. Ham also set a new CASA record in the 200m butterfly. After coming second in the 100m butterfly, his record Ugandan time is only 4 seconds away from the Kenyan National Record – set by none other that Jason Dunford the gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games, who has also won gold at the All African Games and African Championships. (Many of Jason’s achievements are unprecedented in the history of Kenyan swimming). Ham, who is a residential student, stresses that he is only able to sustain these achievements through dedication as well as hard work. When many of us are still dreaming of the days ahead at five o’clock in the morning – Ham is already taking the steps to fulfill his dream- in the pool doing lengths
