Facilities
The facilities and resources at the school help foster environment for quality teaching-learning. Details of the various facilities available at the school are detailed below.
Purpose-Built Campus
The campus is a unique facility in the Northern Areas. Surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the world and spread over 33,000 sq ft, the School's seismic-resistant building offer a great range of modern facilities, including 12 spacious classrooms, four well-equipped laboratories, a conference room and a library.
Library
There is a well-resourced library with about 3000 books on various subjects. The school subscribes to more than 15 national and international periodicals. The students consult these resources in the library to complete their research-based assignments and projects. To further improve their learning skills there is an audio-visual room in the library. The students can also use the Internet as well as other audio-visual aids.
LanguageResourceCenter
To enhance the language skills of the students as well as strengthen language teaching processes there is a Language Resource Center at the school. One of the basic objectives of the center is to provide the students with the kind of learning material which will motivate them to understand and use the language appropriately, engage in effective communication, strengthen their logical thinking skills and enhance their conceptual understanding in different subjects taught at the school.
Computer Center
Effective and efficient use of Information Technology has become an urgent necessity to compete in today’s globalized job market. To update the students on the latest technology and information, the school has a well-resourced computer center with the latest equipment where the students can learn to use the various software applications, including email and the Internet. A specially tailored instructional program ensures the effective transmission of computer skills to students at all levels. Students are encouraged to include web-based research while presenting their projects and assignments.
Botanical Garden
The School has a botanical garden for students to observe different plants and flowers especially some rare species - often only seen in books. This facilitates the teaching and learning process of biology while adding colour and beauty to the campus.
Sports facilities
Developing the student as a whole well rounded personality is one of our major objectives. Accordingly, we lay great emphasis on fostering a spirit of team competition, which, in turn, leads to physical as well as intellectual development. At AKHSS, Gilgit we have facilities for football, cricket and volleyball.
Laboratories
Science is difficult to learn or understand without observation and practical work, and thus it is essential to provide hands-on experience to the students. Accordingly, there are three fully equipped laboratories: one each for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. These laboratories are provided with all the necessary modern facilities for meaningful practical work.
Cafeteria
The school cafeteria provides the students as well as teachers with a variety of food and snacks at reasonable prices. Food quality and prices are closely monitored by the school administration.
