Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad
The Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad is the second Academy to be established. The foundation stone laying ceremony was held in September 2006, marking the start of construction of the purpose built campus. Early construction included the Academy Building, which is the functional heart of the campus, housing the books, technology, computer labs, seminar rooms, library staff and study space of the Senior School, and the administrative offices.

AKA, Hyderabad opened with its first intake of students in August 2011. The Academy selects students who show promise in academic and other areas and demonstrate good character and serious intent, regardless of a family’s ability to pay.

The Professional Development Centre
Enhancing the professional development of teachers from both within the Academy and beyond is a key role of each Aga Khan Academy and is conducted through Professional Development Centres (PDCs). Each PDC works toward teacher development and curricular innovation both for the benefit of the Academy and to expand access to improved teaching and learning methodologies in local and regional schools.

AKA, Hyderabad’s PDC began its first programme for teachers in June 2010 with a series on Professional Learning for Educators.

Future Academies
The other Aga Khan Academies are at different stages in the planning and development process.
