Location
The city of Hyderabad, in which the Academy is located, is the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh in India (See map). With a population of over six million, Hyderabad is India’s fifth largest metropolitan city and is known for its rich history, culture and architecture.
The Site
In August 2005, the Government of Andhra Pradesh allocated an exceptional site for the construction of the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad. This gesture reflects the Government’s support for the catalytic role the Academy will play in meeting the education needs of the country and developing homegrown talent of outstanding calibre.
Before construction began, extensive surveying combined with topographical, geotechnical and climatic studies took place to allow site planners and architects to optimize the use of the outstanding site. A plant nursery was also established to grow locally-appropriate plants for use in landscaping. Download an aerial map (PDF) to see the site plan.
