Admission Requirements

The Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad is preparing for authorisation as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. It offers programmes based on the principles and practices of the IB for primary and secondary-level students. The admissions requirements for the Academy's programmes, including language requirements, are outlined below.

Please note that no new students will be considered for admission in an examination year (Diploma Programme, Year 2).


Junior School
Year 1 to Year 6: Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Students entering year 1 ideally will have completed at least three years of nursery school and must be six years of age by December 31st of the year of entry.

All prospective students must demonstrate a potential for high academic achievement and competency in literacy and numeracy. Each applicant will participate in a variety of assessment exercises.

Students may enter the first three years of the PYP without a strong prior knowledge of one of the languages of instruction, English or Hindi. However, in the last three years of the PYP, students must have a basic level of proficiency in both languages before they may be admitted.

Senior School
Year 7 to Year 10: Middle Years Programme (MYP)
Students applying to the Senior School must have attained high scholastic achievement in their former educational institutions. They should also demonstrate a keen interest and participation in extra-curricular activities such as sports, clubs, arts and music and/or participation in community service projects outside the classroom.

Students without an intermediate level of proficiency in English may be admitted to the Middle Years Programme (MYP) on a case-by-case basis. MYP students have the opportunity to study Language A (language and literature) in both the Official Language (English) and National Language (Hindi) in preparation for Language A and Language A1 in the Diploma Programme.

Diploma Programme
Years 11 and 12: Diploma Programme
Applicants for the Diploma Programme at the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad, must have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements as well as a record of active involvement in extracurricular and community-service activities.

The Academy uses a multifaceted assessment in identifying students. The assessments enable students to demonstrate their cognitive, literary, mathematical, creative, and leadership abilities.
