University of Victoria (Canada) announces scholarship for AKA graduate
Posted on 07 June 2012

On Monday, June 4th The Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad received a visit from Sue Butler of Canada’s University of Victoria*. Ms Butler met the students and staff of the Junior Academy and toured the site of the Senior Academy which is now almost complete in anticipation of the start of lessons in August 2012 for the full school. In the enormous Academy Building, local school teachers were experiencing professional development though the Academy’s Outreach programme. This very popular programme has been modeled upon the highly successful prototype at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa.

Ms Butler was very interested to hear about the background of the future International  Baccalaureate diploma students and the assistance provided for needy families. Academy staff were thrilled to hear Ms Butler announce that the University of Victoria would be offering a dedicated scholarship to an AKA IBDP graduate. The scholarship would amount to $90 000 financial assistance over four years and will be awarded on the basis of academic ability, leadership qualities, community involvement and financial need.
