Co-Curricular Activities

The Diamond Jubilee High School for Girls recognizes the importance of a well-rounded education that includes activities outside the classroom. Students can pursue a wide range of intellectual, sporting and social activities.

Sports
Guided by trained physical instructors and yoga teachers, students practice yoga and pursue local sport like Lezim, as well as carrom, table tennis and athletics. The annual sports meet is held to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship.

Science Clubs
The Ecology and Nature clubs work closely together to bring about environmental and ecological awareness amongst student. They organise hikes, cleanliness drives, awareness campaigns and excursions regularly.

Science Exhibition
Students participates in the science exhibition organised by the Maharashtra Education Department at Ward (the city is divided into wards to facilitate administration) and Regional levels. Students and teachers prepare indigenous, innovative projects and teaching aids for display.

Girl Guides and Maharashtra Cadet Corps (M.C.C.)
Guiding is part of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) for Secondary students. It begins from Class 8 and continues to Class 10. Each class goes camping and hiking annually and enjoys outdoor activities such as cooking, camp craft and campfires that increases their confidence and develops self reliance.

Cultural Clubs
Both the Youth Hostel Association and the Interact Club nurture a child’s holistic development. The Diamond Jubilee Youth Hostel Unit is the only Lady Unit in Maharashtra with mostly Junior members. The Association encourages students to be responsible citizens and spread unity and sisterhood. Activities include spreading environmental awareness, AIDS, social work and visiting homes for the elderly. Students visit various communities, interact with people and experience real life issues and ways of dealing with them. Sponsored by the Bombay Metropolitan Rotary Club, the Interact Club has members from Classes 7 to 9. It organises social, cultural activities and hobby classes. Conducted on the school premises, these classes teach students various artistic skills such as painting; flower arrangement, toy making, hairstyling and candle making. The Interact Club nurtures a child's holistic development.

Language Development
Elocution, debates, story telling, public speaking and dramatic events are organised regularly to enhance students’ linguistic skills.

Prefect Council
To encourage leadership and group skills, a student governing body works with teachers to maintain school discipline. All students are grouped in four “Houses” named after eminent national personalities.

Diamond Jubilee High School for Girls, Mumbai School bandSchool Band
The School Band has 30 students, is well trained, enthusiastic and popular. Students learn how to play base drums, side drums, flutes, bugles, cymbals and bagpiper. The Band performs at school functions and is a major crowd-pleaser on the annual Sports’ Day, Independence Day, Republic Day rallies and participates in various competitions. They have won several trophies including the Dongri Police Station “Band Rally Trophy” and the “Ward Level Trophy” from the Maharashtra Education Department.

Aids Awareness Workshops
Conducted by the School Social Worker, this workshop is organised to educate Class 10 students on the dangers of AIDS.

Student Support Unit
Our Student Support Unit provides academic and emotional support to students and extends support to parents. A special needs teacher and the school social worker communicates regularly with students and teachers to aid the child’s various needs.

Vocational Guidance and Career Counselling (VGCC)
Students receive individual counseling based on multiple intelligence and aptitude tests, helping them to make informed career choices. Invited speakers speak on study habits and create awareness of available career options for parents and students.

DIWA Projects
The DIWA Project (Diamond, Interact Writers’ Academy),  is an activity conducted under the able guidance of our teachers. Apart from enhancing the students’ writing skills, this project also goes a long way in inculcating values like social and environmental awareness. While sensitizing the students to some of the delicate issues prevalent in our society, it also helps to develop the students into useful, pro-active and conscientious members of the society.

Field Trips and Excursions
Regular visits are arranged to places of educational interests in and around the city. These visits are a part of the school's educational plan and operation.

Language development
In order to develop speaking and writing skills among the students, the school organizes annual elocution and essay writing competitions in English, Hindi and Marathi for all the classes.

Art
The school encourages students to appear for the Elementary and Intermediate Grade Drawing Examination which is held in the first week of October every year.
