This painting captures the beauty and strength of birds in flight. It was inspired by Lake Naivasha and the flamingoes found in and around several lakes in Kenya. The flamingoes are dying off, which is a great tragedy, as they are among the most beautiful of birds. This painting was done on watercolour paper

This oil painting, done in semi-abstract style incorporates other materials, such as beads, feathers and string. The vibrant colours reflect life in the jungle - how beautiful it is. But beauty is not only found in birds and flowers - even the deadly snake can be beautiful....

Invaded Morning - Zahiba Mawji   Invaded Morning

This watercolour on paper painting is of a beautiful misty morning highlights blooming and colourful flowers. However, the stump of a cut-down tree dominates the image. I tried to bring out the idea of humans invading nature, particularly forests. The stump brings out the ugliness of killing natural beauty. There is an empty space in this picture - the huge beautiful tree we should be seeing has been stolen!

I chose this particular title because of the different types of fruit available in Kenya. I love food and the Kenyan fruits not only taste very good, but al so show a great variety of colours and textures.
