Curriculum
The Aga Khan Nursery School follows the early years programme, under the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the widely recognised and esteemed International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. It has high academic standards and is known for its well-rounded approach.
It is an international trans-disciplinary programme designed to foster the development of the whole child, not just in the classroom but also through other means of learning.
The PYP focuses on the total growth of the developing child, touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic welfare.
The PYP encourages an active learning approach through which children construct meaning from experience about the social and physical world that surrounds them.
The flexibility available in the PYP for early years allows a child to blend into any other curriculum such as BNC, 8-4-4 or the continuing IB.
Children get opportunities to be active learners and opportunities are provided for them to:
- Make choices and decisions.
- Use materials in flexible and imaginative ways.
- Initiate inquiry and ask questions.
- Work collaboratively with others.
- Sustain their interests and extend their knowledge.
- Develop understanding.
Through the early years programme of the IB curriculum, students are offered an exceptional international experience through interaction with those from other cultures. They learn to appreciate the diversity the world has to offer and be enriched by different creative ideas and perspectives. Students also learn to effectively use technology to enhance their learning and are given a basic understanding of the role it will play throughout their lives.
The learning process at the Aga Khan Nursery School goes beyond academics; values and respects form an integral part of our learning process helping children attain whole and well balanced character development.
