Extra-curricular activities
are considered essential to the development
of a child and therefore forms an integral
part of the school system. The School offers
a variety of activities, including sports,
arts, aesthetics and music.
In addition to sport
facilities for volleyball, cricket, and football
the school also has a number of clubs and societies.
The objective is to provide a forum for the
students to plan and implement various activities
in the pursuit of their individual interests.
Leadership development is an additional benefit
underlining all these activities.
English Literary
Society
The English Literary Society provides a forum
for students to arrange various literary
activities including different competitions
such as English debate, extempore and essay
writing. Thus the society is actively engaged
in developing literary and communication
skills of the students.
Science Club
The Science Club involves students in activities
and discussions that expand and enhance students’ scientific
knowledge while developing their psychomotor
skills.
Art and Music Club
The Club strives to sustain the rich cultural
heritage of the Northern Areas, especially
through local musical functions, including
the cultural Exhibition, Annual Parents Day
and Musical Evening. In addition the club
organizes art competitions at school and
inter-school levels.
Hiking Club
World-famous for some of the highest mountains
in the world, including K2, Nanga Parbat and
Rakaposhi, the region is a hiker’s paradise.
Colonel Sher Khan, a well-known hiker, suggested
the formation of a hiking club during one of
his visit to the school in 2001. The main objective
of this club is to encourage the students to
appreciate nature and pursue an activity that
fosters physical well-being.
Citizenship Forum
The forum arranges programmes and presentations
to raise awareness regarding social issues.
It organises events to restore and promote
the cultural heritage of the Northern Areas
and Chitral. Through this forum students
can show their writing skills. For example,
student contributions on the ‘Fight
against Child Labour’ were published
in International Education and Resource Network
(iEARN) website. It included a case study
on child labour conducted in Gilgit town,
a poem and student views from the School’s
Class 12 students.
Environmental Club
The Gilgit Environment club was established
in 1998 to create environmental awareness
amongst students. Since then the club has
organized and participated in many environment-friendly
programs. On annual basis, the club organizes
programs for students to create awareness
about environmental issues. Also it has developed
linkages with different organizations such
as Adventure Foundation Pakistan, World Wide
Fund (WWF) and International Union for the
Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Urdu Literary Society
As many students at the School come from a
variety of backgrounds and linguistic traditions,
the Urdu Literary Society motivates students
to improve their Urdu language. The Society
arranges activities and functions that help
students learn the language.
In addition to above co-curricular programs
the school arranges student study trips of
educational interest on local, regional and
national level.
