The School recognises the importance of a well-rounded
education; therefore, the emphasis is on holistic
education that extends beyond the classroom.
Intra- and Inter-school competitions give students
an opportunity to enhance their skills and excel
in areas beyond academia. Students participate
in the annual Qirat, Naat, Essay writing, Debate,
Speech, Drama, Skits and Quiz Intraschool competitions.
At the Interschool level students participate
in curriculum-based quiz competitions, speech
competitions and cultural exhibitions. These competitions
are held amongst various schools in the North
including Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Gilgit,
Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Gahkuch, Government
Degree College for Boys, Aliabad Hunza, Hunza
Public School, Aliabad, Al-Amin School, Gulmit
Hunza and the Nasir Khusrow Model School, Gulkhin
Hunza.
Clubs, Societies and Committees
The School strongly believes in
developing its students’ leadership
skills. Clubs and societies offer an excellent
forum for students to actively participate
in a host of co-curricular activities. Students
can join the:
- Literary Society
- Science Club
- Environmental Club
- Discipline Committee
- Sports Committee
- Function Committee.
Literary Bulletin
Students play a major editorial role in producing,
“Charag”, the School’s quarterly
literary bulletin. In English and Urdu, it captures
creative literary works by students including
prose and poetry. “Charag” also
reports the Academy’s co-curricular activities.
An editorial board comprised of student editors
and lecturers from the Literature department
publish the bulletin.
Field Study Programmes
The students engage in the Field Study Programme
to increase their conceptual understanding of
the world around them, helping them link theory
to practical life. Students acquire knowledge
researching areas of interest based on their
future career paths. They have researched medicinal
plants and their uses, studied the impact of
Rehabilitation Centres of Karakuram Area Development
Organization (KADO) and done a biological study
of growing potatoes and its associated common
diseases. Numerous students have continued their
research and pursued it at University.
Student Representative Council
Students from all levels are elected into the
Student Representative Council (SRC). This way,
students learn the democratic process by voting
for the candidate of their choice. The Council
takes an oath, promising to work for the interests
of the School and the students it represents.
The Council is a platform for students to discuss,
raise and explore acceptable and sustainable
solutions to their concerns. Members of the
Council assist staff with discipline and proper
decorum in and out of the classroom. Students
also initiate co-curricular activities. This
responsibility teaches them responsibility and
to accept the consequences of their decisions.
Student Initiated Activities
Early in the year, students are divided into
four houses (Amna, Fatima, Khadija and Zainab).
During the annual “Students’ Week”,
students compete as houses in student-driven
activities including the Sports Day, Science
Exhibition, Art Competition and Fun Fair. The
friendly competition sees students vying for
the coveted ‘Student Week’ trophy.
The winning house enjoys its champion status
for a year till the next “Students’
Week”.
Educational Field Trips
Educational trips give students first hand exposure
to processes and places by visiting educational,
historical and local development projects such
as Hydraulic Power Stations, Radio Pakistan
Gilgit, Baltit Fort, Municipal Libraries, Professional
Development Centre, North (PDCN), Khunjerab
National Park, World Wide Fund (WWF) and the
IUCN conservation projects. During similar trips,
biology pupils are introduced to region’s
