What is a learning area?
A learning area is a field of knowledge, skill or attitude encompassing a subject or concept. It has specific learning standards and stresses continuity and progression. The learning area also integrates curricular and co-curricular activities and links various subjects to create a more engaging learning process.

The School's seven learning areas are:

  • English
  • Native Languages (including Urdu)
  • Science
  • Social Sciences
  • Commerce
  • Mathematics and Information Technology
  • PrISM
These areas cover the local Board of Intermediate Education's curriculum in its entirety. Academic programmes are structured and integrated so as to make education more meaningful and comprehensive. A given topic is studied in a broader perspective through discussion and research. Innovative teaching methods and additional print and electronic resources contribute to developing critical thinking and intellectual competence.

Learning Area Programmes
Different learning areas are specifically designed to enhance students' critical and analytical approach towards learning a language or subject. Activities such as presentations, group discussion, research and science projects spark student creativity.

Learning Area: English
In the English learning area, a language support system provides students with extra help, if needed. Interactive sessions give students confidence and the opportunity to overcome traditional language learning barriers. Students are exposed to vocabulary building, reading comprehension and creative writing to stimulate imagination and inspire creativity. The literature-based syllabus encourages students to explore and enhance their creative talents.

Learning Area: Native Languages
Native languages play a part in maintaining regional identities, culture and contribute to national solidarity. Although Urdu is the primary focus, importance is placed on regional languages so as to develop a better understanding of different linguistic and ethnic groups and promote unity among students.

To promote and understanding and appreciation of modern Urdu literature, students are exposed to contemporary writers and poets. Students adapt various literary pieces, perform famous works and research authors' biographies. The School regularly invites renowned Urdu and regional language poets, writers and scholars to the School.

Learning Area: Science
Besides Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Zoology and Botany from the Higher School Certificate (HSC) Curriculum, this Learning Area includes scientific branches such as Astronomy, Genetics, Microbiology and Marine Science.

This integrated approach is designed to make science more compelling and interesting. Through the Research and Development Programme, students exchange, disseminate and research topics in Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Physics.

Students research scientific topics of interest and submit reports for evaluation. They are then divided into groups and assigned projects based on their preliminary research. Two research projects from each class, in each subject are selected for the Annual Inter-Class Science Exhibition. Students develop organizational ability, critical observation and understand scientific facts.

Learning Area: Social Sciences
The Social Sciences study individuals, groups and institutions in their natural social and physical environment. Students learn to analyze issues from a global perspective.

This Learning Area covers subjects such as Pakistan Studies, Commercial Geography, Islamiat and Economics. The research and analysis programme requires students to prepare and deliver presentation and reports regularly. The Economic Awareness programme focuses on understanding economics, its importance and application in daily life.

Learning Area: Commerce
Commerce is seen as an increasingly important subject by Pakistan's corporate sector. Due to lack of exposure at High School Certificate level, students often find it difficult to cope with Commerce at undergraduate level.

This Learning Area offers opportunities for teamwork and sharpening of planning and leadership skills. It covers basic knowledge of advanced subjects such as Management, Marketing, Finance, International Economics and Business Communication.

Commerce Society members are encouraged to organise seminars and lectures for their peers. Teachers or invited guests speak on commerce and economics-related topics.

Learning Area: Mathematics and Information Technology
Mathematics and Information Technology are two vital yet connected areas of knowledge. In the School, these subjects are developed as one learning area. Classroom activity is oriented towards students engaging in inquiry based learning and problem solving. In this learning area, two programmes, Mathematics for Biology Students (MBS) and Extended Learning Programme of IT, have been developed.

Learning Area: PrISM
A student's personality is a blend of various attributes that contribute to her/her development and needs. The PrISM Developmental Programme is designed to nurture a student's personality in a holistic way.

The Learning Area focuses on a child's Personal (Pr), Intellectual (I), Social (S) and Moral (M) development. Students engage discussion, group presentations, hands-on activities and field trips to experience real life issues and ways of dealing with them. Apart from these exclusive programmes, PrISM is integrated in all learning areas as well.

The School has identified the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), Sindh Education Foundation's Community Schools (Essa Nagri), Rahat Kada and Juveniles' Education Project as potential work areas for students.
