Best Principal and Best College Award
In a Gold Medal award ceremony recently organized by the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi. (BIE, K) Alay Murtaza Naqvi, Principal Aga Khan Higher Secondary School (AKHSS), Karachi was awarded the Best Principal Awards for three groups namely Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering and Commerce for the Year 2002. It is also worth nothing that this will be the fourth consecutive Best Principal Award for Naqvi as Principal of AKHSS, Karachi.
Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karachi has also been the recipient of the Best College Award for the last four consecutive years.


Students performance in the Science Exhibitions 2005
Our students participated in the annual Science Competition organized by Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi (BIE,K) in which they got overall third position. The team participated in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Sciences. The Physics and Chemistry teams were able to achieve first and second positions respectively while the Biology team received third prize.


Students performance in the INTEL Science Exhibitions 2005
INTEL organized a nation wide science competition for which four of our science projects were selected for the final round of the competition that was held in Islamabad. The project on biodegradable plastic made by Bilawal, Ali Maqbool and Arif received first prize at the national level.


Student performance in Sports Competitions
The students of AKHSS participate in various competitions at the regional and National level. AKHSS received the trophy in Sports for 2004 and we are expecting the same with the highest points in 2005. The other achievements are:
  • AKHSS for the third consecutive time was able to win the basketball tournament organized by BIE, K.
  • Saeed Jan stood first in the cross country race.
  • Saeed represented AKHSS in the national athletics championship.
  • The Table Tennis (boys) team lifted the runners up trophy in a competition organized by BIE, K.
  • The Football (boys) team lifted the runners up trophy in a competition organized by BIE, K.


NMTC (National Mathematics Talent Contest)
Rehma Farhatullah Khairi, a student of AKHSS, Karachi, secured 95 and 96 (percentile) in her O-levels Mathematics and Additional Mathematics papers and thus fulfilled the preliminary criteria for appearing in the screening test of NSTC-I where over 2300 students from over all Pakistan of HSC Part I or 1st year A-levels participated. NSTC has been launched under the umbrella of STEM CAREERS PROJECT, which is a joint venture of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) for grooming talented students for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Its key objective is to give recognition to at the highest level to talented youth, who excel in the national competitions, represent the country in the International Olympiads in their respective areas of interest.
Only 49 students cleared the screening test in the discipline of Mathematics and were invited for one-week training cum screening camp (22nd to 29th August 2004) at SMS (School of Mathematical Sciences), Government College University (GCU), Lahore. Many mathematicians of national and international repute were part of the teaching team in the camp. PhD scholars from MIT, Harvard as well as heads of mathematics department of LUMS, COMSATS, and FAST were among those who conducted lectures. On the basis of their performance in the camp and after two short-listing rounds, only 06 students were selected to represent Pakistan in the IMO-2005 (International Mathematics Olympiad) to be held in Merida, Mexico in July 2005.
This is the first time Pakistan would participate in the IMO. Rehma was one of the six talented students who were awarded certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 10,000/- each by the governor of Punjab, Mr. Khalid Maqbool. The team hopes to bring back laurels and awards for Pakistan when they return from Mexico. But our shining star has already done us all proud.


Third Prize For AKHSS Stall
In the annual Art and Craft Exhibition 2003 arranged by the BIE, K, the AKHSS Stall received third prize. On individual level, Hira Tabassum won second prize in Painting and Farheen Raza got consolation prize in Calligraphy.


Best Institution Award
The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi presented AKHSS with the Best Educational Institution award. Through 2003, teachers and students excelled in academic and extra curricular activities. The School’s academic achievements were evident in its annual BIE, K results and its performance in co curricular activities including sports, debates, art and craft, dramatics, photography, science exhibition, bait baazi and qirat. This is AKHSS' third consecutive such award.


MELA 2003: A Step Towards Change
On 16 October, AKHSS’ Commerce and Social Welfare Society organised a Mela. AKES, P Chairman, Mr Habib Peer Mohammad and senior management staff attended this function. The guests accompanied by Principal, Mr Alay Murtaza Naqvi visited each stall appreciating the students’ genuine efforts to make the Mela memorable. organised to help and support less privileged students, the event encouraged students to collaborate, build team spirit and develop managerial skills. All students were enthusiastic and were in high spirits through the day.


Debating News
AKHSS has won the first prize in Inter-District Debate Competition in the Urdu debates and second and third prize in the English debates in June 2003. In the competitions organised by Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, the school received Team Trophy in Urdu Debate Competition 2003 with Fawad Ali Khan attaining the first and Mohammad Raza Khemji third position. In the Urdu Debate Competition 2003 for girls, Faiza Izhar won first prize. Karim Kabir and Muslim Yousuf received first and second prizes respectively in English Debate Competition 2003 and the school won the team trophy. Our students have also won laurels for the school in competitions arranged by various institutions. Hasnain Jiwani and Muslim Yousuf stood second and fourth respectively in the English Debate Competition 2003 arranged by the COMMECS Institute for Business Education (CIBE) and won the Team Trophy. In the Inter Collegiate English Debate Competition 2003 arranged by Pakistan Employees Cooperative Housing Society (PECHS) Degree College, the school won the Team Trophy with Sonia Zia winning the first and Shyrose Razwani receiving the fourth prize.


Sports News
In the year 2003, AKHSS won the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, Athletics Championship for boys. The school also won the Boys Volleyball Competition organised by the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi. Talha Ali Khan received third prize in 50 and 100 meter backstroke in the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi Swimming Championship. In athletics, a number of students won various events. Syed Qaseem Ali and Mohammad Uzair were awarded with first and second prizes respectively in the event of discus throw. Faisal Ahmed stood first in the event of Hop, Step and Jump. Rizwan Razzak and Ghulam Mohammad won the first and second prize in Javelin Throw respectively. Faraz Malik won second prize in the events of Broad Jump and 100 meter Race. The team of Faraz Malik, Ahmed Shehzad, Ibrahim and Ghulam Mohammad won the 4 x 100 meter Relay while the team of Faraz Malik, Riwan Razzak, Faisal Ahmed and Ghulam Mohammad won the 4x 400 meter Relay. Both Hamid Ahmed and Ibrahim received second prizes in 100-meter Hurdle Race and High Jump respectively, organised by the Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi.


AKHSS Students Perform in Compeititons
Mohammad Hassan Ansari won the second prize in the Inter-Collegiate Qirat (Holy Quran recitation) Competition 2003 arranged by Govt. Degree College, Malir. In the Islamic Quiz Competition 2003 arranged by the Board of Education, Karachi, (BIE, K) the team of Muslim Yousuf and Ibad-ur-Rehman won consolation prize while in the Inter-Collegiate General Quiz Competition 2003, the team of Durraiz Khan and Mohammad Adil stood third.


Students Win In Song Competition
Umairuddin received first prize in the Inter-Collegiate Song Competition 2003 arranged by Board of Education, Karachi. In Bait Baazi Competitions organised by the Board, Asif Zafar and Talha Mehmood bagged second prize in the competition for boys and Rabia Zaki and Samin Inam also won second prize in the competition for girls.
