September 2004 - SMS won the trophy by beating Kharadhar and Garden Schools.


Acknowledgement Day
The Annual Result announcement day was organized with a perspective of involving students in sharing their reflections. Students were asked to list down those activities of each Learning Area which they found interesting and the activities they did not like with reasons and suggestions for improvement.

Another activity was to write a positive comment about each class fellow. Every child was pleased to receive positive comments by their class fellows which assures that the new academic session will commence with more love and respect for each other.


Developing a Dictionary
The team of Native languages teachers at Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan School developed a Sindhi to Urdu dictionary of more than 900 words focusing on the difficult words from the Sindhi Text books of classes III to IX. The copies of these dictionaries have been shared with other Aga Khan Schools of Karachi.


Peer Educators Training Program
There is no doubt that children learn best from their peers. Considering this notion a group of twenty four students of class IX were identified for a training program to groom them to be Peer Educators for teaching computer skills to those students of class VIII who need training and support. The young enthusiastic group of trainers is now ready to facilitate their peers on Fridays from August, 2005 onwards.


Meelad un Nabi
Meelad un Nabi was arranged in the month of Rabiul awwal to pay homage to Prophet Mohamed (May Peace be upon Him). Famous Naat Khan Hooria Rafiq was invited to recite Naat along with the children. TV Producer of children’s program Salim Jalali was also present as a Guest speaker who in his speech appreciated the quality of children’s presentation and invited them to participate in his programme on ARY television as well.


An Appreciation Evening for Parents of ECD
An evening of appreciation was organized for the parents of out going class II of SMS to acknowledge their valuable contributions in terms of sharing their skills with the school children and facilitating in the teaching learning process. This evening was one-of-its-kind where parents hosted the show and facilitated the question-answer session. An environment of ownership was evident which endorsed the trust parents have developed in school initiatives.


Murals on Pakistan Railways Boundary wall
Karvan Pakistan an NGO has joined hands with the Chundrigar Road outreach subcommittee to improve the environment of the central business district in order to create a more positive image of Karachi, once dubbed as the city of lights. In this connection students of Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan School participated by making murals on Pakistan Railways Boundary wall. The murals portrayed the cultural and natural heritage of Karachi. Hope we all learn from these kids and make efforts to beautify this city of ours.


Donations for Tsunami victims
History is replete with natural disasters that brought great losses to humanity in terms of life and physical resources. The tragic disaster of Tsunami is one of those many which would be difficult to forget. In crises like this, a sense of empathy was evident among our children supported by their parents. The students of SMS Aga Khan School donated more than 100 cartons carrying Mineral Water, Tea, Dried Milk, Sugar and Biscuits at the Edhi centre, Clifton unit to be distributed among Tsunami victims.


Positions in Art contests
Students of Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan School showed excellent performance in three Inter- Schools Art competitions.

Sabahat Manzoor of class IX clinched second position in a Greeting card making competition organized by KFC on Mother’s Day.

Tooba of class V stood second in a Poster competition arranged by Dadex.

Cancer Society arranged a poster competition on the following theme: "A tobacco free world is a healthier world"

Aqsa Zia of class V won second prize with cash money of Rs 5000/

The following students got consolation prize of Rs 1000/ each: Umme Saher, Shamim Fatima, Amnaz Iqbal, Fida Ali Shaukat, jtaba Anwer, Syed Uneeb Jamal, Mohsin Mansoor.


Inter- Aga Khan School Athletics Meet
SMS hosted the Inter- Aga Khan Schools Athletics meet to identify the hidden talents of our youth in the sports field. Students of SMS secured highest points followed by Garden and Kharadhar schools. Best Athletes trophies in all categories were also clinched by students of SMS namely Bismah Zaki class V, Maheen Manzoor class VI, Razmina Sultan class X, Ali Shah Alladin class V, Noman Badruddin class VII and Sameer Nizar of class X.


Youth Exchange and Study Programme
Once again a lot of enthusiasm was evident among the students of class X to compete for the scholarship of Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Programme. Four students from SMS Aga Khan School namely Sara Zubair, Sadaf Nooruddin, Yusra Zulfiqar and Mohamed Yaseen have been selected for the YES scholarship programme 2005. This scholarship entitles them to participate in a full one- year High school studies in a US school and live with an American host family.
