Community Service
Community service is an essential part of life
at Mzizima with graduating 'A’ Level students
having to perform at least 40 hours of community
service over a two-year period. ‘O’
Level students are equally active as members
of specific clubs community service. The New
Curriculum students have community service and
creative arts activities as part of their daily
schedule.
Nurturing responsible students
The School encourages students to be responsible
at a young age by appointing them in various
leadership positions. Prefects are school leaders
and student role models who guide, counsel and
help their peers develop positive behaviour
towards school life. At the commencement of
the academic year the Head of School appoints
students to the Prefects Council. The appointed
Head Prefect and four Deputies lead this council
for a year.
The School Students’ Council leads most
of the school events, co-curricular actitivities
and clubs. This Council promotes student leadership
and involvement in school affairs. Consisting
of two teachers, all prefects and a class representative,
it is chaired by the Head Prefect with an appointed
secretary. They meet to exchange ideas and address
issues concerning the entire school community.
Council recommendations are given to the Headmaster
for consideration and feedback.
Two core components of the Council are the Extra-Curricular
Activities (ECAC) and Sports Committees. They
supervise various club activities and organise
the Annual Sports Day with guidance from Club
Patrons (teachers) and the Sports Master. The
ECAC also presents the ‘Club of the Month’
award to a club for its outstanding contribution
to co-curricular activities.
