A Quality Education
The Aga Khan Primary School introduced the International
Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP)
Curriculum for its new academic year in September
2005. The IB features a child-centred approach
with an underlying philosophy that student learning
must be self-initiated, self-paced learning
through inquiry, play, discussion and project
work.
Reasonable Class Size For Individual
Attention
Fifty-eight staff teach the School’s 922
students, making the teacher-pupil ratio approximately
1:16. This ratio allows educators to effectively
monitor the student’s progress and enables
effective group-work for students. It also enhances
child-to-child and child-to-teacher interaction.
There are five classes: Grade 1, with an average
of 25 pupils; Grade 2, with an average of 23
pupils in each of the 6 classes; Grade 3 &
4, with an average of 26 pupils in six classes;
and Grades 5 and 6, which are designed for an
average of 30 pupils. The plan is to have an
average of 25 students in all the classes.
Multi-cultural Faculty and Students
With approximately 922 students and 58 faculty
representing between 10 to 15 nationalities
and cultures at any given time, the School takes
pride in its multi-cultural setting. The School’s
Tanzanian, Kenyan, Ugandan, Indian, French,
British, Canadian and Zambian teachers share
experiences with an equally multi-cultural student
community. Teaching staff focus on cooperative
learning strategies that take into consideration
multiple forms of intelligence and individual
learning differences.
Emphasis On Extra Curricular Activity
The School recognizes the importance
of a well-rounded education and emphasizes holistic
education beyond the classroom. Students can
pursue a wide range of intellectual, sporting
and social activities.
