Established in 1970, the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi is a private, co-educational school situated in pleasant surroundings in the Parklands suburb of Nairobi.
The Aga Khan Academy is one of the leading schools in Kenya offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, and authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). With over 1,000 students, it is a multi-cultural school with many nationalities and cultures represented at any given time.

The three schools of the Aga Khan Academy Nairobi work together to develop the IB learner profile beginning with an inquiry-based approach in the Early Years PYP at the Nursery School, followed by the PYP at the Junior School for grades 1-5. Students continue in the Senior School, enrolling in the MYP for grades 6-10. Upon completion of the MYP, students enter the DP for their final two years of study in the Senior School.
Students participate in a strong co-curricular programme, which includes athletics, visual arts and performing arts such as music and drama. In the Senior School, students may also enrol in Film Studies. As a result, students are able to develop a broad engagement with the world as we seek to educate the whole child.
Students are also encouraged to develop ethically and spiritually and to strive to succeed. The Aga Khan Academy's ethos nurtures principled individuals who display respect towards diverse cultures and beliefs, enabling them to become responsible and compassionate global citizens.
Facilities include well-equipped libraries for each school, ICT rooms with SMART-Boards, swimming pools, science laboratories, sports fields, art rooms and a drama and film studio.
The IB curriculum enables students to learn using an inter-disciplinary approach and to develop critical thinking, creativity and international-mindedness - identified by leading educators globally as some of the critical skills for the 21st Century.

The Aga Khan Academy provides an outstanding academic education and enables students to obtain the best results. Although the Nursery School does not have a grading system, it typically holds an annual graduation and exhibition celebrating the completion of the Early Years in the PYP. Over the past four years, DP students in the Senior School have consistently achieved between 32-34 points, scoring well above the world average.
The Academy offers a rigorous, exceptionally well-respected programme, and students graduate as IB Diploma Candidates or IB Course Candidates. Graduates from The Aga Khan Academy gain admission to top universities globally and in Kenya.
The Aga Khan Academy Nairobi is operated by Aga Khan Education Service Kenya (AKESK), a non-profit organization, nearing 100 years experience operating schools in Kenya.
Our first formal schools were opened in 1918, and AKESK currently operates schools in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret, serving close to 5,500 students with a quality, affordable education.
AKES has a long tradition of leadership in educational development. The foundations of the present system were laid by Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah, Aga Khan III, under whose guidance over 200 schools were established during the first half of the 20th century, the first of them in 1905 in Zanzibar, Gwadar in Pakistan and Mundra in India. Since the creation of Aga Khan Education Service companies in the 1970s, the Schools have been centrally administered and managed.
AKES currently operates more than 200 schools and several educational programmes that provide quality pre-school, primary, secondary and higher secondary education services to more than 75,000 students in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates and Madagascar. Tihe school accommodates approximately 250 students from international and multicultural communities. The school is open to all students and does not discriminate in admissions on nationality, ethnic origin or religion. It is operated by AKES, Kenya.
The PYP addresses students’ academic, physical, social, emotional and spiritual well-being. Students are encouraged to develop independence and responsibility for the world. The IB curriculum focuses on whole child development with an emphasis on inquiry.

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, operated by the Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya (AKES, K).
It offers a broad programme of education that combines a rigorous academic focus with a wide range of athletic and enrichment activities. The senior school offers the IB Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) for students in Grades 6 to 10 and the IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) for students in Grades 11 and 12.
The senior school serves approximately 520 students from international and multi-cultural communities.
