Model United Nations Conference held at The Aga Khan School, Dhaka

23 January 2017

An understanding of citizenship, governance and pluralism are essential for success in our times.

Unsurprisingly then, in recent years, Model United Nations (MUN) has risen in popularity among students around the world and recently in Bangladesh.

The Aga Khan School, Dhaka has prepared numerous diplomats to participate in MUN conferences.   In 2016, the Aga Khan Intra-school Model United Nation was held from 7th to 8th October, at the Dhaka secondary campus where around 85 delegates participated in the event from grades 6 to 12.

The United Nations committee engaged young delegates from every grade, each representing a country they had researched, practicing the arts of diplomacy and negotiation.  World issues were discussed in the conference and delegates devised resolutions to effectively tackle problems such as gender discrimination and the global refugee crisis. As per its design, MUN complements a student’s academic background as they engage in challenging international simulations of UN bodies and agencies.

To conclude, awards were presented and a commitment was made that such an event would happen again with greater resplendency.
