For this year’s exhibition, the students worked together in small groups to design their own inquiry projects relating to the transdisciplinary theme, “Sharing the Planet”. With their teachers and mentors, the students researched topics, asked difficult questions and created solutions for global issues. The exhibition featured presentations on topics including eradicating extreme poverty, taking urgent action to combat climate change, gender equality and ensuring quality education.

“I had fun while learning and sharing with my teammates,” said Grade 6 student Ziyan Hamir. “During this journey of preparation for the exhibition, I learnt essential social and communication skills, including working collaboratively in a team and the importance of understanding others' perspectives. I am grateful to the teachers for providing this wonderful opportunity.”

The exhibition is seen as a culmination of the students’ learning in the PYP, combining all the skills, strengths and techniques they have developed in the PYP by exploring global challenges from the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s exhibition was attended by Lord Mayor of the Dar es Salaam City Council Honorary Omary S. Kumbilamoto, the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), Tanzania Chief Executive Officer Dr Shelina Walli, members of AKES, Tanzania’s senior management team, parents, teachers and students.

“The PYP Exhibition is the best way to measure the students’ holistic development because it puts us in a position to connect the classroom learning to life realities,” said Bhavini Sheth, a Grade 6 parent.

AKNPS, Dar es Salaam is proud of its students for participating in this year’s PYP Exhibition and for taking action based on their learning. Through the PYP, the school aims to encourage students to become productive, insightful, responsible and compassionate citizens in a rapidly changing global society.
