Diamond Jubilee High School, Hyderabad celebrates 75th anniversary
The Diamond Jubilee High School (DJHS), Hyderabad marked its 75th anniversary with a spectacular two-day celebration on 21 and 22 December 2024, themed “A Journey Through Time: Celebrating 75 Years of Excellence”.
The first day was a heartwarming reunion as alumni spanning decades returned to their alma mater. Their faces lit with joy as they shared heartfelt stories about how DJHS, Hyderabad shaped their lives. Among its illustrious alumni are eminent and contributing members of civil society, covering a wide spectrum of careers, ranging from bureaucrats, advocates, filmmakers and architects, to doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs.
The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as old friends reconnected and the enduring values of the school were celebrated. The overwhelming turnout of alumni demonstrated the lasting spirit of unity and belonging, making the event truly unforgettable. A special highlight was the inauguration of the new elevator at the school, which was generously donated by the Class of 1980.
Alumni also toured the school campus, guided by students, revisiting cherished memories and marvelled at the school’s transformation over the decades. A special highlight was the photo exhibition, which beautifully showcased the school’s journey through the years. Class photos, moments from milestone events and treasured memorabilia brought smiles and tears to many. The alumni enjoyed a trip down memory lane by engaging in traditional childhood games such as gilli danda, tyre races, marbles and more.
The event was attended by special guests, including members of the Aga Khan Education Service, India, such as Chairman Mr Shiraz Vastani; CEO Mr Farhad Merchant; Director Mr Noordin Dhamani; Director Ms Monisha Tejani; Director Mr Rishad Jivani; Chief Operating Officer Mr Joydeep Kar; Gujarat Regional Head, Dr Iqbal Sama; and Alumni Relations Coordinator for the Aga Khan Schools Ms Tara Menon. Speeches by Mr Merchant, Mr Vastani and Ms Menon highlighted the school’s remarkable journey and its alumni’s pivotal role in fostering growth and elevating the school’s legacy. In his speech, Mr Dhamani expressed gratitude to the alumni for their continued connection with the school.
The second day featured cultural performances, tracing the school’s incredible journey from 1949 to 2024. The event opened with a Guard of Honour, a ceremonial lamp lighting and a high-energy welcome dance and a prayer song. The event was also graced by esteemed dignitaries, such as Dr Jayaprakash Narayana, IAS former principal secretary of Andhra Pradesh, Advocate for Governance and Education Reforms, who served as the Chief Guest; and Mr S.M. Arif, Padmashri and Dronacharya Awardee, Indian badminton coach, and a Class of 1954 alumnus of DJHS, Hyderabad, who was the Guest of Honour.
The event’s cultural programme was a sensory delight, featuring traditional dances, skits and musical performances, which recounted the school’s glorious history and celebrated its achievements. Students performed with enthusiasm and skill, leaving the audience captivated.
In her closing remarks, Principal Dr Sujatha Gade expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, parents, students and staff for their contributions to the event’s success. She highlighted the importance of community spirit and collaboration in shaping the school’s journey and reiterated her commitment to continuing its legacy of excellence.
The two-day celebrations were more than just a milestone; they were a heartfelt tribute to the school’s 75 years of enriching lives and shaping futures. The event left everyone – alumni, students, parents and guests – filled with pride and inspiration, ready to carry forward the Diamond Jubilee High School, Hyderabad’s legacy for generations to come.
