Message - Head of School

Welcome to AKSS!

"The most important thing we can learn - or teach - at any School - in a world of perpetual change - is the ability to go on learning. None of us have all the answers - quite often we don’t even know what questions to ask. Nor can we discern the road ahead by looking in a rear-view mirror. Past lessons must constantly be renewed and reapplied, as we adapt to new technologies and new expectations" (His Highness the Aga Khan IV).

The school resonates with the profound words of His Highness the Aga Khan IV and provides quality education to fulfil the needs of every student.

Today, the role of a school has extended beyond pursuing academic excellence and demands for empowering its students to be lifelong learners, critical thinkers and contributing members of an ever-changing global society.

Notably, AKSS is known as an emerging 21st century school and its holistic approach to academic and co-curricular activities is designed to support students to develop the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to support them in their personal and professional lives.

At AKSS, we nurture the young minds of our students by channelling their natural curiosity and potential and support students to be self-reliant and independent. Our students are encouraged to be their authentic selves and shine like diamonds.

The parent-teacher partnership is the strongest power in shaping the future of children. The combined support of parents and teachers empowers the school to do more and more. I pay my gratitude to parents and teachers for their faith in and support to our school.

We look forward to meeting you and will be welcoming visits to the school from prospective parents once the COVID-19 situation improves and visits are permitted.

Principal - Mr. Shivakumar Naicker

Our Student Council

The Student Council was established to provide students with the voice and choice to create a mind-set of self-direction and a powerful student-centric movement. Members have the opportunity to hone their intrapersonal and interpersonal skills and learn about the ethics of fair governance and the essence of democracy. Some of the key skills that they develop include reflection, responsibility for oneself and others, teamwork, valuing multiple perspectives and leadership.

The Student Council consists of a Primary Student Council (Grades 3 and 4) and Secondary Student Council (Grades 9 and 10) with 12 members each. These council members are democratically elected by their fellow students and teachers based on the parameters of integrity, leadership and academic achievement. The Student Council is led by the School Captains (Head Boy and Head Girl), School Vice Captains, Sports Captains and Vice Captains and the House Captains and Vice Captains.

School House System

AKSS follows the traditional methodology of apportioning pupils into smaller groups, known as houses, to create smaller communities within the wider school community. This enables the students to demonstrate and develop social values and team spirit.

Each house’s name is inspired by various eminent personalities in India. The four houses have a symbol, name and colour: Mahatma Gandhi House (Yellow), Mother Teresa House (Blue), A.P.J. Abdul Kalam House (Red) and Rabindranath Tagore House (Green). Furthermore, each house is represented by the House Captain and led by the House Mistress (teacher).

Every child from Grade 1 onwards is assigned to one of the houses and remains in the same house throughout their school life. The students contribute to their house by participating in various inter-house competitions in sports, cultural and academic related activities throughout the year.

Our Parents

At AKSS we firmly believe that parents play a pivotal role in the functioning of a school and the overall development of their children.

Parents of all Sections are offered a variety of opportunities to participate in school activities. Parents are encouraged to volunteer their time and support the school to facilitate their child’s overall development. Parental attendance on Open Days and Parent Teacher Meetings (PTMs) is compulsory.

AKSS also seeks parental collaboration through its Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA comprises of parents from the Primary and Secondary Sections who are elected under the guidelines of the State Education Department. The PTA has one parent and one teacher as representatives of each grade. PTA elections are conducted at the beginning of each academic year. Thus, the school encourages an ongoing partnership with parents to ensure the smooth functioning of its operations and support to the community.

AKSS welcomes alumni to engage and participate in school activities and alumni engagement programmes. The school also encourages alumni to share their inspirational stories during career counselling programmes for Grades 10 and 12 and at the Alumni Day Stand.
