The Aga Khan Higher Secondary School (AKHSS), Karachi hosted its second annual “Researchathon” on the 15 and 16 September 2023.

Students from AKHSS Karachi, the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Kharadhar and the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Hyderabad participated in the two-day event, showcasing their innovative science projects. In attendance were a large number of students from other schools in Karachi, teachers, school leaders and parents. 

Over 226 projects spanning diverse categories, such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, computer science and ecopreneurship, captivated the audience with their ingenuity. From fog water harvesting to exploring how music influences the human mind and the conversion of vibration to electric power, the projects showcased creativity, scientific knowledge and a search for solutions to contemporary problems. 

The CEO of the Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) Dr Shehzad Jeeva opened the event on the first day. Head of Academic Programmes for the Aga Khan Schools Ms Atifa Sayani graced the event as the chief guest on the second day, expressing her admiration for the students' curiosity and creativity. 

The celebration of scientific achievement concluded with the best projects in different categories being awarded prizes to further encourage students in their pursuit of knowledge and innovation. 

“Participating in the Researchathon was an incredible experience,” said Ibrahim Fareed, a Grade 12 student from AKHSS, Karachi. “It's not just about showcasing our projects but also about exchanging ideas and inspiring each other to push the boundaries of scientific exploration.” 

A head teacher at another school also praised the event.  

“It's inspiring to see the next generation of scientists and innovators in action," said Head of the Sun Academy Noureen Mansoor.
