Diamond Jubilee High School, Mumbai alumnus selected for prestigious international leadership and climate action programme
Husain Mohammedi Kagalwala, a Class of 2026 alumnus of the Diamond Jubilee High School (DJHS), Mumbai, was selected as the only student from India to participate in Huaka'i Hawai'i: A Journey of Change and Resiliency, an international leadership and climate action programme.
The programme was held on the island of Oahu, Hawaii in the United States from 18 July–1 August 2026 and organised by the SOL Center in partnership with the United World Colleges movement. It brought together a select group of 10 participants aged 14–18 from around the world to explore the challenges of climate change, engage in experiential learning, develop leadership skills and collaborate on innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.
Following a highly competitive international selection process, Husain was chosen for the programme based on his leadership potential, commitment to community service and alignment with the United World Colleges' values of peace, sustainability and global understanding. His selection as the only participant from India makes this achievement even more significant.
In recognition of his exceptional merit, which includes being his school’s head boy and scoring over 90% in his Grade 10 board examinations, Husain was awarded a 75% scholarship for the programme. This recognised not only his academic excellence but also his initiative, perseverance and dedication to making a meaningful impact in society.
"I have been a student at DJHS, Mumbai for the past 13 years, and I want to express my gratitude and thank the school for always giving me countless opportunities, an education and knowledge,” Husain said, reflecting on this milestone. “Finally, I would like to thank my principal, vice principal, teachers and parents for their constant support."
