Permissible business activities

The first AKES, Pakistan school was established in 1905 in Gwadar, Pakistan. AKES, Pakistan currently operates 154 schools and six hostels that provide quality pre-school, primary, secondary and higher secondary education services to students across Pakistan. These schools have an enrolment of over 57,000 students. AKES, Pakistan employs over 4,000 staff and is also supported by more than 2,000 volunteers.

A significant proportion of students impacted by AKES, Pakistan are from rural areas, with a majority of them being female. Strong efforts are made to continuously improve the quality of education in some of the country’s remotest regions. In Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral (GBC), Aga Khan schools were set up in the 1940s and have since then contributed significantly to increasing literacy rates and the socio-economic development in these regions.

AKES, Pakistan currently operates 146 schools in GBC, providing quality educational access to over 43,000 students, 48 percent of whom are female. AKES, Pakistan also operates four schools in Karachi, three in Hyderabad and rural Sindh, and one in Hafizabad, Punjab, with a combined enrolment of more than 14,000 students. All Aga Khan schools in Pakistan follow the national curriculum and place special emphasis on the teaching of English, mathematics, science and information and communication technologies (ICT).
